Feed Department (Service):

TOP AG Co-op has a long history in the feed business. We have historically mixed corn with registered feed products and minerals to produce feed. There have been many recent changes in the livestock industry that have made it hard for producers to be profitable. TOP AG Co-op has decided to make some changes to meet the demands of its livestock producers, and help them be more profitable, by building TOP AG Dairy Feed Center. TOP AG DFC is a type of feed mill called a Commodity Shed. The Commodity Shed gives the co-op the ability to buy all of its ingredients in bulk and custom blend feed rations. TOP AG DFC is designed primarily to produce dairy feed, but is capable of also producing beef, swine, and horse feed.

The construction of TOP AG DFC began in the spring of 1998. The new feed mill was then completed at the end of November, and opened for business on December 1, 1998. The Commodity Shed has 12 bays which are capable of holding up to 48 tons of feed. The Commodity Shed uses a Rotomix TMR mixer to blend feeds. The mixer is capable of blending up to 7.5 ton batches. A Rosskamp Roller Mill is used to process grain. The roller mill can roll corn as fine as 700 microns, at a capacity of 17 tons of grain per hour. Also, inside the Commodity Shed is an automatic bagger for making custom blended bag feed. TOP AG Co-op has made a major investment into the livestock industry by building this new structure. By doing this they have made themselves and their producers more profitable. The profitability for both have come from increased efficiencies, buying in bulk, and custom tailoring rations.

TOP AG DFC offers feed in bulk or bagged. Ingredients can be purchased individually or blended. They offer delivery service with their two 15 ton tandem bulk trucks. They also offer custom grain processing for 50 cents per cwt., and grain bank. They also offer discounts for trailer loads of commodities shipped straight to the farm.
